Get Lost MCR’s Top 5 Travel Spots

We partnered with Get Lost MCR to select 5 of their top travel spots near Manchester for those looking for a weekend explore or a little staycation!

Hebden Bridge

Home of arty independents and quirky eateries galore, Hebden Bridge is a top-tier day out. Just an hour's drive from the city centre and only a 30 minute train ride from Victoria, it's easy enough for us Mancs to make a proper day of it. For us, the real beauty of Hebden Bridge came from exploring its nearby villages. After a pit stop at neighbouring Heptonstall, we stumbled across Hardcastle Crags: a walker's paradise! With 15 miles of woodland trails to explore, you'll be spoilt for choice.

Hayfield, Peak District

The Peak District is one of our favourite places to visit this side of the pennines, and no round-up of Derbyshire beauty spots would be complete without a mention of Hayfield. Hayfield is a lovely village that lies in the valley of the River Sett on the very edge of the Peak District National Park and attracts people from all across the country who want to tackle climbing up to the highest point in the Peaks, Kinder Scout.

Lud’s Church, Staffordshire

One visit to Lud's Church, and you won't have to stretch your imagination too much to picture this place as the origin of many myths and legends. This moss-covered chasm is full of history, myths and enchanting dark green everywhere you turn, with each nook and cranny as unique as each other. It's also close to The Roaches and the village of Wincle, perfect for extending a day out in nature or in a cosy pub.

Ladybower & Derwent Reservoirs, Hope Valley

These neighbouring reservoirs are a Peak District must-visit. Offering flat, uphill and vista walks galore, there's so many places to explore both at the foot of and high above Ladybower and Derwent Reservoirs. Our favourite trails in this neck of the woods are Bamford Ridge, Wheel Stones, Derwent Edge, Alport Castles and the Derwent Valley circular. You can also rent bikes at Fairholmes, the visitor centre at Derwent Reservoir, if you fancy getting a spin in!

Castleton, Peak District

By far our favourite village in the Peaks, Castleton has it all: caves, history, gift shops, tea rooms and plenty of watering holes. It's also home to some of our favourite walks and landmarks - Winnats Pass, Cave Dale, Mam Tor and Peveril Castle. It's the perfect gateway to the moorland hill trails over Kinder Scout and the Great Ridge and its many cave systems make for great days out.
