Noticing your internal climate

This is a tool to develop awareness around attuning to yourself and how you are feeling.

Attunement is the process of connecting - energetically aligning - with ourselves and others, including nature. When we develop our awareness of how we are feeling internally we also develop our awareness of how we may impact others and the world around us. Our good feeling state is more likely to result in positive behaviours and our lower feeling state is more likely to result in challenging behaviours for ourself and others.

Group Size: Individuals, pairs, groups.

Time frame: 10 - 40mins

Materials: Pen, notepad

  • If doing this exercise with your group, discuss what attunement might mean. If doing it individually, reflect on what attunement might mean.

  • Spend 10 minutes alone tuning in to yourself. It may be helpful to have your eyes closed. As you tune in, notice what frequency you’re picking up - your inner climate -  is your frequency light, energetic and positive or is it heavier, tired and negative, or something else?

  • If doing this with your group get together in pairs and share what you notice about attunement and your inner climate. If doing this individually, note down what you noticed about attunement and your inner climate.

The following questions can help develop your awareness of when you are attuned:

    • Did you tune in?

    • What was it like?

    • How did you get there?

    • What, if anything, took you away from it?

    • Could you go back to it?

The following questions can help develop your awareness of your inner climate:

    • What was the weather like in your inner climate today?

    • How did it feel?

    • Did it change as you observed it?

  • There are a couple things it’s helpful to know about our inner climate:

    • There is no need to do anything to change or maintain your inner climate, it is naturally always changing, just like the weather. Simply notice and become familiar with your inner climate and watch if it changes to be replaced by a different one.

    • We are designed to dwell in light and possibility and our inner state is always moving in the direction of a light and bright climate. You may notice that the inclination of your inner climate is clarity and sunshine - even if our minds resist this, it is nature’s way.
